About us
Welcome to University of the Third Age Port Phillip. We hope you'll find our web site interesting and informative.
The third age of life follows the first age of dependancy, childhood and schooling, and the second age of independent adulthood, career-building and home-making. It is the age of active retirement.(Many people refer to the fourth age, when we become depenent on the community again, but U3A caters for those people too).
U3A provides an opportunity to enjoy this new phase in life. The U3A concept is intended to enrich your retirement years and to support your intention to remain active and mentally alert. It creates opportunities to learn new skills and enjoy lifelong education for the sheer pleasure of it.
U3A Port Phillip is a community organisation staffed and managed entirely by volunteers. It runs informal daytime adult education courses, both long-term annual classes as well as short courses. Saturday afternoon seminars with eminent guest speakers are held each month and U3APP also holds or participates in a variety of community events.
U3APP will open your mind to ideas, issues, projects, activities and disciplines for which you could never previously find time.It can also encourage and equip you to be more active and engaged in your community, perhaps even to influence local issues and events.
Most U3A members are retired or semi retired and may join U3APP for an annual fee and attend as many courses as they choose, usually at no extra charge ( a small charge may apply to the supply of course notes, or entrance fees on excursions etc.) There are no academic entry requirements nor any assessments or examinations.
U3APP is managed by a committee elected by members. U3APP is supported by members' fees, assisted financially by local, state and federal governments. It is a member of the world-wide U3A organisation, now in 30 countries.
